CORONA GENERATOR
Control of the Corona system
In a corona system, the corona generator and the high-voltage transformer produce the high voltage that is applied to the corona electrodes. Additionally, the generator controls the overall corona system. With our 9000 series of corona generators, SOFTAL has set new standards in the corona generator market across all power segments.
CHARACTERISTICS
Economical operation
SOFTAL generators are setting the industry benchmark for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Careful balancing between the generator, transformer, and treatment station ensures that the system operates at its resonance frequency. This ensures that the treatment system operates at maximum efficiency, maintaining the lowest possible operating costs throughout its entire lifespan.
Innovative operating concept
The operating concept of SOFTAL generators merges the strengths of two prior designs. Whereas generators were previously operated solely with a rotary switch or a touchscreen display, the new series of generators integrates the benefits of both. The touchscreen is primarily used for menu navigation, while the rotary switch facilitates quick and precise adjustments to settings and values.
System control
The generator display serves as the primary user interface for the overall system in most applications. A corona station is equipped with numerous sensors and actuators, providing the generator with the essential control signals. Status and notification messages related to the operation of the corona station are displayed on the generator screen. Additionally, the generator implements specialized functions tailored to customer needs, such as speed-dependent control of corona power (CCP), skip treatment (SCT), and pulse mode (DCR).
Plant control interface
Besides generating high voltage and controlling the corona station, the generator also serves as the interface to the production environment. Standard interfaces like Profi-Bus and CAN, along with customer-specific potential-free inputs and outputs, ensure that both the generator and station can be integrated into any setting and process.
Transparency and usability
To optimize processes and to make user interactions more transparent, SOFTAL generator can be equipped with a diagnostic and operating memory, which keeps a log of the last 100 messages and user commands. This provides valuable information for the analysis and optimization of processes.
Reliability
Numerous setting options and background functions ensure the safe, reliable, and economical operation of a SOFTAL generator under all conditions. Each one embodies decades of experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of corona and plasma generators. Uninterrupted operation hinges on all those subtle background adjustments that the high-tech electronics carry out while the generator is ‘simply doing its job’.

SURFACE TREATMENT WITH ALDYNE™ TECHNOLOGY
Plasma technology first became commercially available in the 1950s. As more and more potential applications for plasma were discovered, the technical challenges increased. New processes were identified, new solutions became market-ready, and laboratory trials evolved into patented products.
As an early pioneer in the plasma market, SOFTAL has always been integral to the corona realm. For over 50 years, SOFTAL has consistently expanded the boundaries of technical possibilities. Today, corona and plasma solutions by SOFTAL are utilized worldwide. We have manufactured over 10,000 corona stations and more than 250 corona systems for film stretching lines.
From the beginning, our focus has centered on the market and our customers’ needs. Our systems are precisely calibrated to the material being treated and the available budget.
Characteristic of SOFTAL products are the numerous minor and major details that ensure continuous operation and optimal uptime in daily production. This might be as straightforward as selecting the perfect components or involve intricate design elements, such as a detachable electrode module for effortless maintenance. Decades of experience and advancement infuse every single design step in all of our products.
CHARACTERISTICS

Electrodes
Shape, material, and position of the corona electrode assembly, coupled with the characteristics of the related treater roll, determine the homogeneity and efficiency of the plasma discharge. Continuous advancement of our electrodes has led to several patents, including our Intelliblade™ electrode and our liquid-cooled ceramic electrodes, both of which have been tried and tested hundreds of times.
Material types
There are film materials that require an extremely high-powered plasma discharge to achieve the desired effect; others are so sensitive to electric discharges that they would be destroyed even by a standard low-power plasma discharge. There is a solution for every film – just ask us.
