Test pens
TEST PENS FOR QUICK TEST OF FILM SURFACE ENERGY
Test pens answer the question „Is the surface energy of this plastic film sufficient for conversion purposes?“
Treated and untreated plastic films are visually indistinguishable. However, using inadequately treated films can lead to delays and wastage, which can quickly become a significant issue in an industry that demands the highest levels of quality, performance, and production output. This is especially crucial in the converting industry, where information needs to be readily available.
The application and evaluation of a test ink take only a few seconds. To perform the test, apply a line of ink to the film using the pen and observe its behavior. If the ink forms a solid line, the film has a surface energy of at least 38 mN/m and is suitable for printing and other converting processes. If the ink contracts and fails to create a solid line, the film’s surface energy is below 38 mN/m, indicating it is insufficiently treated for most converting processes.
Our product’s ease of use, reliability, and competitive price have made it the world’s best-selling corona test pen
CHARACTERISTICS
Repeatable in accordance with DIN ISO standard
Test inks by SOFTAL let you measure the surface energy of test inks quickly and repeatably in accordance with DIN ISO 8296.
Simple procedure
To perform the test, the behaviour of a line of ink on the PE or PP film in question is observed. If the line remains solid, the film is sufficiently treated for converting processes.
Reliable results
The test ink used in SOFTAL test pens has a surface energy of 38 mN/m.
Scope of delivery
Test pens with red ink are delivered in boxes of 10.

TEST INK FOR SURFACE TENSION MEASUREMENT
Test ink answers the question „What is the surface energy of this film?“
Test inks by SOFTAL allow you to measure the surface energy of test inks quickly and repeatably in accordance with DIN ISO 8296.
Test inks are delivered in packs of ten, each with different surface tension values. To perform the test, lines of various inks are applied to the film in question, and their behaviour is observed. By observing the individual behaviour of different test inks, the ink with the ideal behaviour is identified. The surface tension of the ink with the ideal behaviour is then identical to the surface energy of the film.
This knowledge facilitates quality assurance and process optimization, for example, by highlighting the difference before and after a corona treatment step.
CHARACTERISTICS
Repeatable in accordance with DIN ISO standard
Test inks by SOFTAL let you measure the surface energy of test inks quickly and repeatably in accordance with DIN ISO 8296.
Simple procedure
To perform the test, the behavior of different lines of ink on the PE or PP film in question is observed. The line of ink with the best behavior then has the same surface tension value as the film.
Quick results
Applying and evaluating a test ink is a matter of seconds.
Scope of delivery
A standard set of test ink, blue, contains 10 bottles à 30 ml in a suitcase with the following surface tension values: 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 52, 54 mN/m.
Of course, test inks are also available separately – in bottles of 30 ml with surface tensions ranging from 30 to 72 mN/m.
