Surface treatment with Linear Plasma technology
In SOFTAL’s product portfolio, Linear Plasma technology has a special role. In corona, plasma and ALDYNE™ stations, the material to be treated is guided through the plasma electrode and a roll, which acts as the counter electrode. In this design, the maximum distance between plasma electrode and roll is limited by the plasma discharge itself. If the distance becomes too large, a homogenous plasma discharge does not form.
A Linear Plasma generates a potential-free plasma discharge within the electrode housing and utilizes compressed air or a process gas mixture to blow the plasma onto the material. The design limitations concerning maximum material thickness are removed and materials with any thickness can be treated.
Undesired backside and cavity treatment forming in air inclusions or cavities is an issue in the corona treatment of industrial foams and multi-wall sheets. Linear Plasma eliminates this problem completely.
Modern high-tech materials, such as silicone wafers and plastic films used in the production of printed electronics, are extremely sensitive to electric discharge. Strong electrical fields can damage or even destroy these state-of-the-art materials. With a potential-free discharge, Linear Plasma eliminates this problem altogether.

Eliminates backside and cavity treatment
Industrial foams and multi-wall sheets have air inclusions and cavities, which has made them notoriously unsuitable for corona treatment in the past. Undesired treatment in these areas can weaken the material and waste power. The basic working principle of Linear Plasma from SOFTAL eliminates this problem completely, as the treated material does not pass between the corona electrode and a counter electrode here. The plasma discharge is generated within the electrode housing and strictly localized to the material surface.
Any material thickness
In a Linear Plasma system, the plasma is generated ‘above’ the material to be treated and then blown onto the material with compressed air or a process gas. A technical limitation to the thickness of the material to be treated does not exist in this case.

Controlled treatment atmosphere
ALDYNE™ is the modern alternative to wet chemical primer applications. Instead of wet chemicals, ALDYNE™ utilizes a locally produced process gas mix of Nitrogen and inert gases, which is absolutely harmless. In most cases a process gas control panel is used, which allows the operator to adjust the process gas mixture to the demands of each material to be treated on an individual basis.
